Sawing Service
$100/Hr
We saw hardwood logs at our shop.
By custom cutting your logs you can get exactly the sizing and thickness you wish. Need some advice? We can help by giving you lots of advice on how to get the most from the logs you have.
- Sawing cost: $100/hr. 3 hour minimum.
- Log Pickup Travel cost: $2/round trip mile from Mankato, MN + Onsite time.
- Band Replacement cost: $75/band. Only charged if something in your logs destroys our band.
Express Kiln Drying
$1.50 $3.00/Bdft
Our vacuum kiln can dry wood at rates of up to 10 times faster than traditional wood
kiln while limiting the cracking, cupping, and the discoloration that usually occurs with traditional wood kilns.
- $1.50/Bdft for lumber less than 2" thick
- $3.00/Bdft for lumber 2" thick and greater.
- 250 Bdft Minimum
- Above rates include up to 2 passes through kiln.
"Bdft" means board foot -- this is a measure of wood volume. One bdft is a board that is 12" wide x 12" long x 1" thick.
Bdft = Length * Width * Thickness / 144

We meter every board/slab on both sides in many spots. It is common that thick material can require 2 passes through the kiln to dry. The slab is allowed to acclimatize for at least 1 week (1 month is preferable) between passes. This allows the moisture content remaining in the slab to equalize which improves the overall drying for the second pass. Both passes are included in the price quoted above.
For extremely thick pieces that require more than 2 passes through the kiln to dry, each additional pass required after the 2nd will be charged at the above rate.

We are offer custom wood furniture design. Using either your wood or ours, we work with you to design and build custom heirloom pieces that will last generations. With all of our work we emphasize the natural beauty of the wood we use.
- Sanding, wide planing, flattening, glue-ups, finish, etc for custom furniture, countertops, mantels, etc
- An estimate for number of hours will be given before work begins.
Bulk Millwork
Ala-carte
Do you need wood flooring? Paneling? Moldings? Stair Components? Talk to us, we can help. We charge $100/hr for doing all sorts of millwork. Ask us what you want to have done and we will give you an estimate. Small 4 sided molding jobs less than 250 sqft may be charged a setup fee depending on the desired profile. Each of these step are billed individually as needed.
If you are new to sawmilling and millwork, figuring out what you need done, what it will cost, how long it will take, etc can be confusing. We work with people new to this type of service very frequently. Each person's job is different. We pride ourselves in being able to explain what we do and in offering helpful suggestions to our customers.

So how much is it going to cost me?
Every job is different and is billed on an ala-carte basis. Before any work begins, we will review the full process with you including estimated costs.
How long will my job take?
We will go over scheduling with you when booking your project. Sawing jobs can usually be scheduled within a week or so. Kiln drying jobs typically only take 1 or 2 weeks in the kiln; this does not include the time until a spot opens up. The timing for furnishing are variable; 6 to 8 weeks is common.
